Het oude IJzeren Rijn-traject, de spoorverbinding tussen Antwerpen en Duitsland die ook over Nederlands grondgebied loopt. Deze (goederen)spoorlijn werd in 1991 tussen Roermond en Dalheim gesloten. België is voor reactivering van deze lijn, aangezien het een goede verbinding geeft tussen de Antwerpse haven en de rest van Europa. Nederland is tegen: naast economische motieven loopt de lijn tussen Roermond en de Duitse grens door natuurgebied 'De Meinweg'.

Het panorama is net in Duitsland genomen; de Nederlandse grens loopt zo'n honderd meter achter het vervallen seinhuis 'Stellwerk Dw'. Het spoor loopt aan de andere kant naar station Dalheim, een paar honderd meter verder. Vroeger een druk knooppunt, momenteel slechts een doodlopend spoor met een kleine halte.

Eind maart 2003 is het seinhuis afgebroken.

The 'IJzeren Rijn'-railroad (translated: 'Iron Rhein', as an iron river Rhein which 'flows' from Antwerp to Germany), which runs over Belgian, Dutch and German territory, was closed in 1991. The Belgian government is trying to reactivate the railroad, because it is an economically important railroad between the port of Antwerp and the rest of Europe. The Dutch government is against reactivation: because of economical motives, but also because the railroad runs through a National Park between Roermond and the German border.

This panorama was taken in Germany; some 300 feet behind the derelict signal box is the Dutch-German border. In the other direction, a few hundred yards away, is the station of Dalheim. Dalheim used to have a large shunting yard in the past, but all that is left now is a small, single-track station.

The signal box was torn down in March 2003.
